Projects

Below you will find some examples of my work. This page is currently under construction! I will be updating it at some point with additional projects and relevant information.

Web Sites

  • davelongwebstudio.com
    • I made this site using Hugo, CSS, HTML, and JavaScript.
    • I also created a Cloudflare worker to handle the form submissions.
  • davelongmusic.com
    • This site was made with WordPress using the Divi Theme and the Gutenberg Editor. I used the Yoast SEO plugin for the site’s SEO metadata, and I made the contact forms using the Forminator plugin.
    • I originally created this site on Squarespace, and I recently migrated it to WordPress.
  • davelongdev.com (this site)
    • This site was made with WordPress. I created a custom block theme for this site.
  • davelong.io
    • This site was made using Astro in 2023. I used the Astro paper theme.
  • newburghcreates.com
    • A nonprofit in Newburgh, NY that runs hands-on STEM and art programs for kids. I rebuilt the site with Hugo, a static site generator (it had been written by hand in HTML), and I handle its ongoing development and maintenance along with the SEO strategy. I also contribute to the copywriting and the blog. The design is by Jason Otero.
  • newburghcreatescommunity.com
    • A companion site for the families and teams in Newburgh Creates programs, with projects, team resources, and a blog. I designed and built it with Hugo, and I added a content management system (CMS) that runs in the browser, so posts can be written and edited without touching any code.
  • stemventuringcrew111.org
    • The site for a Venturing crew in Newburgh, NY that’s focused on science, technology, engineering, and math. I designed and built it with Hugo. The logo was designed by the whole crew.
  • thenewburghproject.org
    • A project to revitalize Newburgh through architecture, art, technology, gaming, and history. Jason Otero designed the site, and I built his design with Hugo.
  • beaconroboticscenter.com
    • A new home for all things robotics in Beacon, NY. The center isn’t open yet, and the site will grow along with it.

Front-End Projects

  • WordPress Block Theme
    • I recently created a minimal WordPress block theme to use in developing WordPress sites. I also used this theme for this site (davelongdev.com).
  • Astro Website & Blog Template
    • This project was initially based on a tutorial series by Chris Pennington on the Coding in Public youtube channel.
    • After finishing the tutorial, I restyled the site using Tailwind CSS and made some additional modifications.
    • I have some additional updates that I need to add into the repository. I’m planning to do this soon!
  • Astro Site Template
    • This is a project made with the Astro web framework. I started off by following the getting started tutorial on astro.build in 2023. The original project can be found here.
    • After I finished the tutorial, I added some additional customizations and functionality. I was using this as my developer website for a while. Now it’s just a sample project and a template for making sites with Astro.

Back-End Projects

  • Cloudflare Worker for Contact Form
    • This worker was created to process form submissions on davelongwebstudio.com.The worker processes the form, saves the form data to Cloudflare’s KV database, and sends an email to me with the form submission data. The form is handled on the client side and in the worker with JavaScript, but I structured the form and the worker so that the front end will send the form data to the Coudflare API without using JavaScript as well. This worker was created to process form submissions on davelongwebstudio.com.The worker processes the form, saves the form data to Cloudflare’s KV database, and sends an email to me with the form submission data. The form is handled on the client side and in the worker with JavaScript, but I structured the form and the worker so that the front end will send the form data to the Coudflare API without using JavaScript as well.

  • Link Report Crawler
    • This is a command-line tool build with JavaScript and Node.js that crawls a website to find and count all the links on the site. It then prints a report to the console showing each link on the site and how many times it appears. The links are sorted from those used most to those used least.
  • Static Analysis Tool for Text Files
    • A command-line tool written in python that analyzes a text file and prints a report to the console. The report shows data on:
      • How many words are in the file
      • How many times each character appears in the file
      • How many times each alphabet character appears in the file
      • How many times each non-alphabet character appears in the file
